Household Pollution…There is a Solution
Every day, people everywhere, unwittingly expose themselves andMother Earth, to hazardous materials. I say unwittingly, becausethese chemicals are found in the household products that we useevery day. Scientists now believe that exposure to these everyday products, is a key factor in the increase of certain chronicillness in children. Illnesses including cancer, asthma, ADD;birth defects, and many other problems. And if they are toxic tous, they are not helping the environment either. As consumers,we are left in the dark as to what are really in the products weuse. Manufacturers are required to list the ingredients, but howare you supposed to know what those items do? Most of them youcan't even pronounce! We all know that when it comes toCorporate America, profit usually wins out over consumerprotection.
YOUR HOME IS THE NUMBER 1 SOURCE OF TOXIC CHEMICALS Because wespend 80-90% of our time indoors, that is where we are morelikely to come in contact with toxic chemicals, residues andvapors.
Children drink more water, eat more food, and breathe more airper pound of body weight than adults. This is one reasonchildren are more likely to suffer; another is that children putthings in their mouths. Even things you think are "clean" oftenhave harmful residues left on them by the very products you usedto clean them with! Furthermore, children are less developed, their bodies are effected more severely than an adult's. And,just because something has proven safe for adults, doesn't meanit's safe for kids. Most products are tested without anyconsideration for the exposure of children, save the smallwarning to keep out of their reach. Each year FIVE to TENMILLION accidental poisonings are reported to the U.S. PoisonControl Center. Many are fatal; most are children. What is underyour kitchen sink? Bleach, dishwasher detergent? What's in thebathroom? Perfume, mouthwash, and hair color can kill a child!Among children under the age of five, the most common poison isa household cleaner or personal product. Would you keep ahandgun under your sink? No way- but you keep products downthere that are statistically even more dangerous. According tothe National Safety Council, more children, under the age offour, die from household poisoning than are killed by accidentalshootings in the home. And we want more legislation for guns.Ok, we know we can't depend on the government to protect us, sowhat can we do to protect our planet and ourselves? Is there anygood news? YES! There are alternative products out there thatare safer, healthier, and more natural. Several companies havesprung from the need for healthier living, and offer greatproducts that work as well, or better than supermarket brandsyou commonly buy. In most cases they are even less expensive touse as well.
